viaCycle is the product of a team of Georgia Tech graduates, which has recently received the logistical and financial go-ahead from Tech and the City of Atlanta to begin work on a bike-sharing network on campus, to hopefully be expanded into Midtown in the near future. Their website describes their system thusly:
“viaCycle creates advanced bicycle sharing technology that allows easy deployment and administration. Our mission is to bring affordable, sustainable transportation to areas that need it most.
Our electronic locking system is the first of it’s kind, and represents a completely new way to implement bicycle sharing. It uses GPS and wireless communications to put all necessary infrastructure on the bicycle itself, eliminating the need for expensive kiosks, specialized bike racks, and complicated regulations. We think bike sharing should be about giving people the freedom to live and work the way they want, not taking it away.
viaCycle is committed to the ideals of sustainability – enduring economic prosperity, interconnected, sustainable mobility, and a healthier way of life. We combine new ideas in transportation with cutting edge IT to achieve these ideals and open new channels for people to live and work the way they want.”

Hello,
I’ve been working with different bicycle companies over the past year. Such as fatsandbike.com and pedego electric bicycles. I’ve been working with finding smaller gps units that would fit inside the bicycle frames of these bicycles. I’d like to consult with your students about their ideas. I’d also like to volunteer my time to help be a part of this project.
Please feel free to call me at (678) 632-3832.
best,
Robert Napier
Robert,
Are you looking at doing so for studying routes, or for reclaiming stolen bikes? We’d be happy to hear more about your project, please share more information!
