May 2011:

Governor Deal signs HB101

Governor Deal has officially signed HB101, which includes a 3-Foot Safe Passing requirement, as well as solidifying legalities around bicycles, bike lanes, and making recumbent bikes legal (plus much more); this is a big step forward for cycling in Georgia, and should benefit both cyclists and motorists dramatically. It will officially become law on July 1, 2011.

National Bike Month

May is National Bike Month, and many organizations around the area are hosting events, offering special benefits, and generally getting into the swing of summer by getting out on bikes! Check out atlantabike.org for local event offerings, as well as our events section for on-campus or nearby events!

BIIC Awarded 2011 Georgia Tech Environmental Initiative Award!

Congrats to all the members of BIIC, whose hard work and commitment to bicycling were recognized during Earth Week by Georgia Tech.

HB 101 Passed the Senate and House, on to Gov. Deal!

It includes a Three-Foot Safe Passing Law, clarifications on the state understanding of bike lanes, a legal recognition of the right arm extended as a right turn signal (instead of the bent left arm), allows the sale of bicycles with clipless pedals, and much more!
